As dozens of people were at afternoon prayer on Tuesday, an Islamic boarding school collapsed in the province of East Java, leaving 38 people believed to be trapped under rubble, and Indonesian rescuers were rushing to find them, according to disaster mitigation authorities.

The disaster mitigation service stated in a statement that Monday’s tragedy at the Al Khoziny school in the town of Sidoarjo resulted in the collapse of the unstable building during construction, killing one person and evacuating 102 others.

Building materials fell on scores of students and employees as a result of this unexpected incident,” agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari stated. He claimed that searchers were moving the debris with the help of a bulldozer and that about 80 injured people were being transported to hospitals.
