According to a senior official, the UAE intends to introduce new AI models modelled after China’s DeepSeek. Faisal Al Bannai told reporters that the disruptive advent of the system is “fantastic news.
“DeepSeek’s challenge to American tech giants showed the field was wide open in the race for AI dominance,” said Bannai, the driving force behind the UAE’s Falcon large language model. To diversify its economy and move away from fossil fuels, the United Arab Emirates is placing a lot of emphasis on transformative technologies.
DeepSeek, a high-performing and ostensibly inexpensive AI model that sent US tech markets plunging following its announcement, gave Bannai hope. This is terrific news. At the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Bannai stated, “Because it proves one thing: this game is at its beginning.”
In 2023, the UAE introduced Falcon, a sizable language model that performed well compared to industry heavyweights like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Bannai, the UAE’s presidential advisor on new technologies, stated, “What transpired with DeepSeek was another proof that small teams, agile teams, agile countries, can move fast and can make an impact.” I believe that what they demonstrated is teaching us something. In this context, we are learning and will be introducing further models.
