His Majesty The Shees heritage project and the old Zubarah neighbourhood in Khorfakkan were inaugurated Monday by Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council. The buildings were chosen for their historical and social significance in order to preserve the architectural and cultural heritage of the two areas.

Sheikh Sultan examined the old Zubarah area, which included the governor’s residence, the big mosque, and the guesthouse. Four homes with halls, storerooms, and crane rooms had sloping roofs designed to withstand intense rains.

During his tour, Sheikh Sultan was explained the activities held in the neighborhood’s facilities. These activities include cultural activities like reading, drawing, and various workshops, as well as traditional crafts and occupations like weaving, embroidery, spinning, sewing, making incense and perfume, preparing for a wedding, grinding grain, and making yoghurt.

He was also given an update on the restoration project, which comprised the rehabilitation of every building in its initial phase, which started in 2023.

Sheikh Sultan also heard an explanation of the project’s second phase, which intends to investigate and revitalise the area’s historical depth and involves restoration work on an old town next to the mountain.
