On Emirates Road, heading toward Abu Dhabi, a truck collided with a metal barrier. According to preliminary reports, the driver lost control of the truck after dozing off at the wheel, drifted off course, struck the barrier, and stopped off the road. The motorist was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The Director of the General Department of Traffic, Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, cautioned that drivers’ focus, attentiveness, and capacity to respond to unexpected circumstances are all negatively impacted by fatigue and exhaustion. Drivers, passengers, and other road users may be at risk due to a loss of vehicle control, lane changes, and collisions with other cars or metal barriers.

Brigadier Jumaa emphasised that sleepy driving is a major issue that calls for increased awareness and rigorous adherence to traffic safety regulations. He pointed out that even while tired drivers think they can finish their trip, they might not be able to operate their cars properly. He clarified that a car may deviate off the road or hit a barrier if it loses focus for even a few seconds. Sleepiness makes it more difficult to focus and make decisions, which greatly raises the possibility of losing control and getting into dangerous situations.

Brigadier Jumaa emphasised that obtaining enough sleep before driving is crucial for enhancing one’s capacity to react to unforeseen road conditions. In order to safeguard themselves and other road users, he advised drivers to stay in their assigned lanes, adhere to traffic safety regulations, and stop driving right away if they feel sleepy or exhausted. Additionally, he urged everyone to check the www.amanroads.gov.ae traffic safety portal. In order to lessen traffic accidents and save people and property, the platform offers information and advice to encourage a culture of road safety, increase awareness of the dangers connected to risky driving behaviours, and reinforce safe driving practices.
