On Friday, a US official revealed developments between Iran and Oman that may soon allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen, perhaps resuming oil exports that have been halted by the US conflict with Iran for the past five months. The US official, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that Washington expected the two nations, who are on opposite sides of the strait, to reach a deal shortly so that regular oil flow could resume.
A broader peace accord is thot to depend on Iran and Oman reaching an agreement over control of the important waterway.We anticipate a resolution shortly because Oman and Iran are making progress on the strait,” a US official told Reuters on Friday. “Once the deal is announced to restore commercial shipping without impediments, the United States will lift the blockade of Iranian ports.”The person stated that US actions will remain performance-based and dependent on Iran fulfilling its obligations. Approximately one in five barrels of oil used globally passed thru the strait prior to the US and Israel starting their assault on Iran on February 28. However, Iran has used the conflict as an excuse to impose a toll on oil tankers and open fire on ships that try to cross the strait without authorization. Energy prices have skyrocketed as a result of the disruption in oil shipments, which has also spurred inflation.
