Cycling Tracks

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled two new cycling tracks spanning 7 km in the Khawaneej and Mushrif areas. This expansion, timed just ahead of Ramadan, integrates seamlessly with existing tracks, creating a comprehensive network covering 39 km. The initiative aligns with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for a bicycle-friendly city and is a key component of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.

Encouraging Sports and Leisure Activities

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, underscores the strategic significance of these cycling tracks. Aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors, the project seeks to encourage sports and leisure activities while improving connectivity between existing tracks and key attractions.

Details of New Tracks and Connectivity

The first cycling track, starting at the Qur’anic Park, extends from Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, intersecting with Al Khawaneej Street. Crossing the street via a combined pedestrian and cyclist bridge, it seamlessly connects with the existing cycling track.

The second track begins at Mushrif Park, near Crocodile Park, stretching to intersect with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. Running northward along the street and crossing Al Khawaneej Street through a designated bridge, it links with the cycling track in Al Khawaneej.

Ambitious Vision for Connectivity

Beyond these additions, the RTA envisions connecting major districts, extending the cycling track network from 544 km to 1,000 km by 2030. Plans include linking coastal areas like Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, and Marina to external tracks in Al Qudra, Saih Al Salam, and Nad Al Sheba through districts like Al Barsha, Dubai Hills, and Nad Al Sheba.

As cyclists explore these new routes, adherence to community-specific rules is emphasized by the RTA to ensure safe and responsible cycling within the city.
