On Wednesday, a passenger van transporting tourists crashed and caught fire near Khajut, a few miles from Pakistan’s federal capital Islamabad, on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway, killing at least ten people and wounding several more, according to motorway officials.
According to the Motorway Police and Murree administration, the victims were from the same family and were traveling from Multan to Murree. The majority of the people in the van were youngsters. According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was carrying 23 Multan-based visitors.
According to Murree Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, the vehicle was carrying 23 members of a single family when the tragedy occurred. He claimed the truck was traveling at high speeds when it hit with a side wall. The hit caused a fire in the engine compartment, and the van’s sliding door became trapped, trapping passengers inside.
According to a representative for Motorway Police, the van went into a drain following the collision and caught fire instantly. According to previous reports, the vehicle collided with a side wall after exceeding the speed limit, then caught fire.
