According to two semi-official Iranian news outlets, Iran ceased talking to mediators about extending a ceasefire in the conflict with the United States and Israel on Tuesday. However, President Donald Trump denied the report and stated that negotiations were still ongoing. Tensions escalated in Israel’s independent but connected conflict with the Iranian-backed militia Hizbollah in Lebanon at the time of the reporting by the Fars and Tasnim news agencies, both of which are thought to be close to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the talks, a regional official involved in the mediation informed the media that Iran had not communicated at all on Tuesday after stating that in order for talks to proceed, a ceasefire in Lebanon had to be implemented. In a square in downtown Tehran, Iran, a guy waving an Iranian flag for a pro-government campaign stands behind a billboard depicting the Strait of Hormuz and the stitched lips of US President Donald Trump. In other news, the US military claimed to have fired a missile to stop another oil tanker from breaching the US blockade by attempting to enter an Iranian port. According to a social media statement from U.S. Central Command, it was the seventh ship that the military had intercepted while attempting to operate the blockade.
After the crew disregarded numerous warnings over the course of a day, an aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the engine room of the Botswana-flagged commercial ship M/T Lexie, according to the report. Reports of a halt to negotiations were deemed “false and erroneous” by Trump. In a social media post, Trump stated, “The conversations between us have been ongoing, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago and today.” “Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, ‘It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal.”
