According to a climbing official, a record 274 hikers ascended Mount Everest on Wednesday, making it the most climbers from Nepal to summit the world’s highest peak in a single day. It is possible to climb the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) Everest from both sides of the Tibet area of China and Nepal. According to expedition operators, no climbers were present on the Tibetan side this year because no permits had been issued by Chinese authorities. The record was compared to the previous high of 223 ascents from the Nepali side on May 22, 2019, according to Rishi Bhandari, secretary general of the Expedition Operators Association of Nepal, on Thursday.

File/AFP Bhandari told Reuters, “This is the highest number of climbers in a single day so far,” adding that the figure might increase because some climbers who had reached the summit might not have contacted the base camp about their accomplishment yet. Although there are no statistics from China about the number of climbers who reach the summit, Bhandari stated that approximately 100 individuals travel from the Tibetan side to Everest during the typical climbing season in April and May. More than 250 individuals scaled the top on Wednesday, according to preliminary figures provided by Department of Tourism official Himal Gautam.Gautam told Reuters, “We wait for climbers to return, provide us with photos and other proof of their ascents, and give them climbing certificates.” “We won’t be able to verify the numbers until then.”
