Days before Moscow commemorates World War II and despite conflicting requests for a temporary ceasefire, Russia’s defense ministry announced on Thursday that its forces had destroyed over 350 Ukrainian drones overnight. On May 6, Ukraine declared a unilateral truce; however, Moscow’s army disregarded this call and persisted in its bombardment all day and night.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s demand for a truce to include May 9, when Russia celebrates its triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II and holds a significant military display on Red Square, Kyiv made a counteroffer.
According to a statement from Russia’s defense ministry, 347 Ukrainian drones were destroyed between 1800 and 0400 GMT. According to the local governor, 13 people were injured in the Bryansk region, which also borders Ukraine, while a woman was killed in the Belgorod border district.
According to a statement from Kyiv’s air force, Russia shot 102 drones toward Ukraine during the night. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, threatened to launch huge strikes on Russia during the Saturday celebrations after criticizing Russia for refusing to stop firing.
