In collaboration with the University of Tübingen, Germany, the Government of Sharjah, under the direction of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), has opened the first round of applications for the Mentoring Fellowship Grants for Emirati Youth, the third funding category within the Faya Research Grant Programme. This program offers Emirati students and graduates the chance to obtain practical training, fieldwork, and exposure to international research at the Faya Palaeolandscape World Heritage Property.

The Faya Research Grant Programme, a flagship Dhs2 million initiative that will run from 2026 to 2028 under the direction of the Government of Sharjah and run by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority in collaboration with the Faya World Heritage Property Scientific Committee, includes the Mentoring Fellowship Grants for Emirati Youth up to the age of 35. Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi is the Ambassador of the Faya World Heritage Property. The program was created to enhance scientific knowledge at Faya, fortify the research foundations supporting its Outstanding Universal Value, and cultivate future generations of Emirati heritage specialists.

Stone Age archaeology inside the Faya Palaeolandscape: The site’s archaeological significance and scientific worth have garnered international attention because the Faya Palaeolandscape was recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In response to this momentum, the Mentoring Fellowship Grants integrate Emirati students and graduates into a vibrant World Heritage research setting, connecting scholarly research with practical archaeological work, with a particular emphasis on Stone Age archaeology. The fellowship supports the long-term stewardship of the Faya Palaeolandscape World Heritage Property, one of the oldest known sites of human occupation in a desert environment, dating back 210,000 years, by connecting up-and-coming national talent and those with archeology experience to ongoing fieldwork at Faya.
