According to the Indonesian news agency (ANTARA), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced a plan to purchase up to 200 helicopters next year to bolster the nation’s defense posture and enhance its readiness for natural disasters.
Referring to the ongoing emergency response to floods and landslides in Sumatra, he mentioned the nation’s high catastrophe risk because of its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. This week, we received five additional helicopters, and the quantity will keep growing. During the Golkar Party’s 61st anniversary celebration in Jakarta on Friday, Prabowo declared, “I have ordered my aides to procure 200 helicopters starting January next year.
He expressed sympathy to the people impacted by the widespread calamities and stated that Indonesia is still a strong country that can overcome crises by working together and mobilizing quickly.
Prabowo reassured the public that the government has been acting swiftly to address the situation, including sending out 50 helicopters to provide relief and assist with search and rescue efforts in the impacted areas. He justified the procurement plan, arguing that Indonesia needs to improve its ability to both successfully respond to disasters and prevent military threats.
