when severe rain left thousands without electricity and hundreds in need of rescue, emergency services reported on Wednesday that flash floods in Odesa, Ukraine, had killed nine people, including a family of five who were trapped in their home when it was overrun by water.

The organization shared images of people being hoisted from a flooded bus and cars being taken out of the water on the Telegram messaging app, stating that teams worked through the night to rescue about 362 people and pump water from structures.

There is a terrible situation in Odesa right now. Nine people, including a child, have died as a result of the natural disaster,” President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on X platform. One more person’s location was still being confirmed, he added.

Maryna Averina, the emergency service’s spokesperson for the Odesa area, told Ukrainian television that a family of five who resided in a lower ground floor apartment of a building was unable to flee the flood wave. Averina reported that three more people were swept away while going along a road and killed.
