Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, has reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to the land transport sector, with railways playing a central role in the Projects of the 50. Launched in 2021, the National Railway Programme involves investments of AED50 billion, making it the largest rail system of its kind in the country.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) ahead of the Global Rail 2025 Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, Al Mazrouei highlighted that the programme goes beyond infrastructure, aiming to generate economic and developmental benefits exceeding Dhs200 billion. The initiative also targets reductions in carbon emissions, improvements in road safety, and alignment with the UAE Centennial 2071 goals.
He emphasized that railways are a cornerstone in achieving the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to road transport. By enhancing mobility and public satisfaction, the project contributes to a higher quality of life.
Al Mazrouei also noted the country’s ongoing investments in smart mobility, including infrastructure for autonomous vehicles and a comprehensive legislative and regulatory framework, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a global leader in transport innovation.
