A two-seater glider from the Jazirah Aviation Club crashed off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday (December 26), killing the pilot and her companion. Investigations are being conducted to ascertain the cause of the accident, according to a Sunday confirmation from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Indian physician Sulaymaan Al Majid, 26, who was born and reared in the United Arab Emirates, was one of the dead. According to Majid Mukarram, his father, the incident happened close to the beach, at around 2 p.m., just after takeoff, Khaleej Times reported. In the crash, the 29-year-old Pakistani lady pilot also perished.

For touring, Dr. Sulaymaan had rented the glider. His parents, younger brother, and father were among his family members present at the flying club to witness the event. The next scheduled flight was for Sulaymaan’s younger brother.

The glider had lost radio communication, we were initially told,” Majid recalled. We were later told that the occupants had been sent to the hospital after it made an emergency landing. We were informed upon arrival at the hospital that both were in severe condition and receiving resuscitation. Before we could see him, Sulaymaan passed away, and Majid noted that his death time was after 4:30 p.m.
