According to media reports on Friday, supermodel Naomi Campbell admitted to failing in her capacity as a trustee of the organisation she created, Fashion for Relief.
However, according to the reports, Campbell maintained that she had not committed any financial wrongdoing or abused the organisation for her own benefit while it was in operation.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Fashion for Relief, and Campbell was unavailable in London late on Friday.
A spokesman for Campbell told The Guardian that she “may not have been as actively engaged in the charity’s day-to-day operations as she should have been,” but that she had “never engaged in any form of financial misconduct.
After an investigation revealed that money contributed for worthy causes was spent on smokes and spa services, she was barred from serving as a charity trustee for five years last month.
The Guardian quoted a statement released on behalf of Campbell on Friday that stated, “Naomi has never received payment for her involvement with Fashion for Relief, nor has she billed any personal expenses to the organisation.”
In 2005, she established Fashion For Relief to use runway events to collect money for humanitarian issues. However, this year, the charity was taken off of Britain’s list of charities.
