According to a statement published on X on Saturday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has invited Joseph Aoun, the recently elected president of Lebanon, to travel to Saudi Arabia.
The announcement stated that Aoun’s first international journey in his new position would be to Saudi Arabia, but it did not provide a specific date.

Army chief Aoun was voted president of state by Lebanese MPs on Thursday, ending more than two years of impasse brought on by severe political differences. In Lebanon’s history, he is the fifth army leader to be elected president.

When Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called to congratulate Aoun on his inauguration on Thursday after a two-year vacancy in the role, the Saudi prince added, “Saudi Arabia would be the first destination in his visits abroad,” according to the statement.

His office announced on Friday that the president “will on Monday hold parliamentary consultations” in which he will meet with independent legislators and representatives from every bloc in the house towards naming a head of government.

Aoun promised to work toward appointing a new prime minister who would be “a partner and not an opponent” as soon as possible as he took office on Thursday. He emphasized the importance of selecting a prime minister who can win over the international world and implement the urgently required changes to revive the economy.
