Jamie Lee Curtis has come under fire for drawing comparisons between the ongoing war in Gaza and the destructive wildfires that are presently destroying the Los Angeles area.
The 66-year-old Oscar winner’s comments at a recent Q&A session with her co-star Pamela Anderson from The Last Showgirl for the upcoming drama have gone viral.
The City of Angels is where I was born and reared. And there is fire everywhere in the City of Angels. The Freaky Friday actress claims that the entire Pacific Palisades city has vanished.
I mean, my entire neighbourhood is gone. Even though I live in a different canyon, my house is still there tonight. Curtis, who yesterday announced a $1 million donation in relief donations to support Los Angeles amid the devastating blazes, continues, “But the entire Pacific Palisades looks like, unfortunately, Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened. And there are now fires breaking out everywhere. So it feels totally bizarre to be talking about a movie, and yet it’s a piece of art, and art will save us no matter what.”
On X/Twitter, numerous people blasted the Everything Everywhere All At Once star for comparing the wealthy LA enclave to war-torn Gaza.
“This is a completely atrocious comparison,” one wrote.
“I live in California and you would never find me comparing these fires to Gaza…both tragedies but not comparable AT ALL,” wrote a second.
