Concerns over the world’s grain supply and the effects of weather on agricultural productivity led to price rises for cereals, sugar, and vegetable oil, which caused global food prices to reach their highest point in almost three years in July. The Food Price Index increased by 0.6 percent from June to 131.1 points, according to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This increase was driven by higher costs for grains, sugar, and vegetable oils, even tho the prices of meat and dairy products decreased.

Concerns about disruptions to Black Sea exports, damage to export infrastructure, and the effects of heatwaves on harvests in various producing nations led to a 3.4 percent increase in the grain price index. Prices for maize increased by 3.6% as well. Shops at Copenhagen, Denmark’s Torvehallerne covered market display seafood for sale. Supported by rising prices for soybean and palm oil, the vegetable oil price index increased by 2% to its highest level since June 2022. In contrast, the sugar price index increased by 5.6 percent due to worries about the effects of weather on crops, while the meat price index decreased by 2.8 percent and dairy prices decreased by 0.7 percent.
