Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer reported that the city-state’s energy consumption rose 5.4% in 2024 over 2023. According to Al Tayer, 2024’s energy demand was 59,594 gigawatt hours (GWh), up from 2023’s 56,516 GWh.

He added that to keep up with Dubai’s population growth and the continual expansion of the Emirate’s economic activity, DEWA is building world-class water and electricity infrastructure while increasing transmission and distribution network capacity.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has made sensible decisions that have made Dubai a world-class metropolis, a popular place to live and work, and a center for both business and tourism. Growing demand for water and electricity fuels DEWA’s sustained expansion, which is aided by Dubai’s urban, economic, and demographic prosperity, according to Al Tayer.

Clean electricity makes up 20% of the entire installed power generation capacity, and DEWA’s installed generation capacity reached 17.179 GW. In order to achieve the goal of producing all energy by 2050 from clean energy sources, this aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
