As worries about commerce via the Strait of Hormuz increased after Iran claimed two oil tankers had burst and were immobile, US forces struck Iran on Monday for the ninth day in a row. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported on Monday that they had used ballistic missiles to attack US planes at Jordan’s Aqaba airport, as well as US military infrastructure and assets in Syria and at Kuwait’s Al Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base.
The Kuwaiti army claimed to be intercepting hostile drones in an Iranian strike on Monday morning, while Bahrain’s interior ministry reported that sirens had sounded. The strikes are a part of a growing cycle of hostilities between the United States and Iran following the collapse of an interim ceasefire agreement announced a month ago. The conflict over control of the Strait of Hormuz has caused disruptions to oil supply and heightened concerns about inflation worldwide.
US Central Command said in a statement that it had started “a new wave of strikes” with the goal of “degrading” Iran’s capacity to attack commercial ships in the crucial maritime routes across the strait. It provided no more information.
