DEWA Issues The First Autonomous Licenses To Operators Of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has granted Tesla and UAEV the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses for EV charging stations in Dubai.

This milestone is encompassed by DEWA’s recently introduced complete Regulatory and Licensing Framework for the construction and management of EV charging infrastructure in the Emirate of Dubai.

The framework is a major step towards promoting green mobility and reaching Dubai’s net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050. It is made to meet both existing and future needs. In order to meet the increasing demand for EVs, it encourages the robust development of infrastructure while guaranteeing a smooth and secure user experience.

In keeping with the vision and directions of the astute leadership to promote sustainable green mobility, DEWA has consistently been at the forefront of assisting the shift to electric vehicles. DEWA was the first in the area to install public EV charging stations in 2014. The cooperation between the public and commercial sectors is strengthened by the complete regulatory and licensing framework for constructing and operating electric car charging infrastructure throughout the Emirate.
