On April 23 and 24, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) hosted an essential intergenerational event. The initiative, which was organised with assistance from the Ministry and in partnership with the Sharjah Social Services Department, the Senior Citizens Services Centre at Al Asala Club, and the Ministry of Community Empowerment, demonstrates the Institute’s ongoing dedication to conserving cultural heritage and bolstering national identity.
This unique event demonstrated the ability of legacy to unite people across generations by bringing together children, adults, and seniors in a common area for education and cultural exchange. The event, held at the Institute’s offices, drew passionate participation from members of the community of all ages, as well as historical specialists and cultural enthusiasts. The initiative encouraged the younger and elder generations to exchange experiences and engage in meaningful conversation.
Participants engaged in heritage-inspired activities focused on the maritime environment on the first day. Al Nahma, an Emirati sea chant, was performed traditionally to evoke the memory of the sea’s significance in Emirati culture and to encourage participation from all age groups via narrative and performance.
The second day featured interactive and instructional workshops designed explicitly for Al Asala Club ladies. The goals of these heritage-rich events were to maintain cultural identity, honour hereditary traditions, and provide older women a forum to impart their knowledge and life lessons to younger generations in a polite, empowering environment.
