Maryam Bin Al Shaikh, Director of the Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), draws attention to the expanding potential of female SMEs and how they are playing a crucial role in the future of business in the United Arab Emirates and the region in honor of International Entrepreneurship Day:
As we work toward our objectives of diversification and future-readiness, the UAE and the larger MENA region are going through an economic transition that is affected by globalism, climate pressures, and rapid technological advancements. An ambitious and rapidly growing segment of the commercial sector, women entrepreneurs are a potent force poised to leave their imprint and are contributing to this change. One new project at a time, these creators are actively shaping the future of the area by skillfully fusing ambition and purpose, as well as resiliency and creativity.
The UAE is a prime example of this trend, with recent research showing that 84% of women are exploring entrepreneurship. This increase in female-led enterprise signifies a fundamental structural transformation. Women now make up about 50% of the UAE’s growing SME sector, with 47% of the female population identifying as entrepreneurs. This has a profound impact on the business environment. A resounding 98% of female entrepreneurs anticipate revenue growth over the next five years, demonstrating their confidence.
