On Monday, pop sensation Katy Perry made a quick trip into space, riding one of billionaire Jeff Bezos’s rockets to the edge of space with an all-female crew. The singers’ “Firework” and “California Gurls” were transported in a spacecraft from Blue Origin, the space corporation owned by the founder of Amazon, which was more than 60 miles (100 kilometers) above the surface of the earth.

The airplane took off from western Texas just after 8:30 am (1330 GMT) and made a safe landing ten minutes later, carrying five other ladies, including Bezos’s fiancée, Lauren Sanchez. Before the all-female sub-orbital trip on the New Shepard rocket, Lauren Sanchez, Amanda Nguyen, Katy Perry, Gale King, Aisha Bowe, and Kerianne Flynn pose in their space suits. AFP

According to TV host Gayle King, one of the other passengers, Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” in orbit. I give it a perfect score. My review is that. After returning to Earth safely, the singer declared, “Definitely go for it.”

Before the crew capsule separated in midair and fell back to earth, slowed by parachutes and an old-fashioned rocket, their totally automated vehicle climbed vertically. Then the joyful women came out, Perry leaving the capsule and kissing the earth.
