As Regional Tensions Rise, Germany, France, and Switzerland urge their Citizens to Leave Iran

Following Tehran’s missile strike on Israel and the latter’s threats of retaliation, Germany, France, and Switzerland advised their citizens to leave Iran on Wednesday.

In a revision of their advice, the German Foreign Ministry stated that “German citizens are asked to leave Iran” and not to visit the country.

On the webpage of its embassy in Tehran, the French Foreign Ministry stated: “It is advisable for French residents in Iran, who have the possibility, to temporarily leave the country as soon as international air traffic resumes.

It went on to say: “French nationals who are not residents should nonetheless absolutely avoid travelling to Iran. For those who are still present in spite of everything, it is advised that they keep their movements to a minimum, stay away from crowds, and depart Iranian land as soon as airspace is opened.”

An identical plea was made by Switzerland, which urged “Swiss to leave the country by their own means, if it seems possible and safe.” The Foreign Ministry of Switzerland also stated that “travel to Iran is not recommended.
