US President Donald Trump blasted the “disgraceful” Nobel Peace Prize choice Friday as casting a “indelible stain” on Norway, contending the prize should have gone to him.
South African jurist and human rights campaigner Navi Pillay received the renowned prize Friday for her work against war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Trump meanwhile called the pick of the Norwegian Nobel Committee “a disgraceful and embarrassing decision”, telling a crowd of his supporters in Syracuse, New York he had “never heard of” Pillay. Never heard of this particular person, but congrats anyhow,” he said.”The United States of America, via me as your president, should have won the Nobel Peace Prize but didn’t. “The decision to award the prize to Pillay leaves an indelible stain on the country of Norway,” he stated. Trump has made no secret of his intention to win the Nobel Peace Prize since returning to the White House in January 2025.

But experts in Oslo said his conflict with Iran, his territorial expansion goals like Greenland, his hard line on immigration, and his attacks on multilateralism and the media disqualified him, even before Pillay was proclaimed laureate.
