Artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly transform the civil aviation ecosystem, according to Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority. However, using these technologies requires clear governance and regulatory frameworks to ensure their safe, responsible, and transparent use.
Saif Al Suwaidi gave a speech as part of the main agenda for the 4th China Air Transport Association Conference, which took place in Beijing from September 17–19, 2026, with the theme “Integration and Development of Artificial Intelligence and Civil Aviation.” According to Saif Al Suwaidi, the UAE and China have a solid and long-standing relationship based on respect, trust, and a desire to deepen bilateral cooperation.
He emphasised that one of the important industries demonstrating the breadth of this collaboration is civil aviation, which is backed by air services agreements and collaboration that offer a solid basis for the more than 90 weekly flights that link cities in the two nations.
Saif Al Suwaidi said during his speech that artificial intelligence could completely change how the aviation industry operates, including regulation, airspace management, aircraft maintenance, passenger services, and decision-making support. It is not just a new technology being introduced into aviation.
