The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has announced that Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) will celebrate International Museum Day on May 18 with a cultural and interactive event. This year’s theme is “Museums Uniting a Divided World.” Workshops, museum visits, live music performances, panel discussions, community events, and a temporary art show are all part of the program, which runs from May 15 to May 18.

On May 18, SMA is also providing free admission to all of its museums in Sharjah City, Khorfakkan, and Kalba. This initiative encourages people to explore the arts and sciences as well as learn about the rich cultural legacy and history of the United Arab Emirates.

This celebration is in keeping with the visionary cultural approach that His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah, established. He has positioned museums as essential institutions for raising awareness, maintaining identity, and serving the community, and he has placed culture at the center of the Emirate’s development.

Additionally, it reflects His Highness’s conviction that “Museums are made to educate our children and our future generations.” Sharjah’s museums continue to uphold this belief by providing knowledge-based content and engaging interactive experiences that uphold cultural identity and advance universal human values.
