US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he has accepted a 14-day cease-fire plan from Iranian war mediators and agreed to halt bombing of Iran for two weeks. Trump claimed to have discussed a two-week ceasefire with leaders in Pakistan, which has acted as a mediator between Washington and Tehran.

“Based on conversations with ‌Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump tweeted.

On April 7, 2026, Donald Trump declared that he had consented “to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.” Trump described Iran’s 10-point proposal as “a workable basis on which to negotiate.” According to Trump’s post, the US and Iran have reached an agreement on almost all of the previous grounds of dispute, and the two-week interval will allow a deal to be sealed.

Trump reaffirmed that he believed Washington’s goals had been met. Trump has presented changing objectives and timeframes for the conflict. On February 28, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, sparking the start of the Iran War. In retaliation, Tehran launched its own attacks on Israel and Gulf nations that had US bases. Oil prices have increased and global markets have been rocked by the conflict. Millions have been displaced and dozens have died as a result of Israeli attacks in Lebanon and US-Israeli strikes in Iran. Earlier on Tuesday, Trump threatened that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran did not reach an agreement.
