His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Honorary President of the Emirates Writers Union, met on Monday with the Union’s President and board members. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Sharjah Book Authority, in the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the Authority’s Chairperson.
During the meeting, Sheikh Dr Sultan welcomed the Union’s leadership and praised the efforts made in recent years to strengthen the cultural landscape and support Emirati writers and intellectuals. He highlighted the role these efforts play in developing literary output and enriching the country’s cultural and intellectual life.
Sheikh Sultan underlined the importance of offering a wide range of programmes and activities that motivate writers to continue producing and publishing meaningful work. He noted that the true value of a publication lies not in its length, but in the strength of its ideas, the quality of its content, and the clarity of its style.
He also stressed the need to identify and nurture young writing talents, providing them with the support needed to develop their creative skills and contribute lasting works to libraries and cultural institutions. The discussion also covered key cultural topics and the challenges faced by Emirati writers, with Sheikh Sultan reaffirming his ongoing support for initiatives that promote writers, support their publications, and help broaden their reach locally and internationally.
