A senior US Administration official confirmed on Friday (local time) that the $100,000 yearly cost is intended for new H-1B visa petitions, not renewals or current holders, which is a huge relief for current H-1B visa holders.
Those with H-1B visas, including those traveling to India or overseas, are exempt from having to pay the hefty $100,000 price or return to the US by Sunday, the official said. Those traveling to India or departing the nation are exempt from paying the $100,000 cost or rushing back before Sunday. Only new holders are eligible for the $100,000, the source told ANI.
The Ministry of External Affairs’ Official Spokesperson said that the Indian and American industries have a stake in invention and creativity and should be consulted on the best course of action in a statement about restrictions to the US H1B visa program.
The government has seen reports on the proposed limitations on the US H1B visa program. “Everyone involved is studying the full implications of the measure, including Indian industry, which has already released an initial analysis clarifying some perceptions related to the H1B program,” the statement stated.
