The fourth meeting of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Working Group for the Arab States region was concluded by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), in cooperation with important regional and international partners.

The discussion, which took place in Abu Dhabi from September 10–12, brought together more than 20 female peace actors, practitioners, and policy experts from throughout the region. Ahead of the WPS’s 25th anniversary at the UN in 2025, the meeting intensified efforts to match Arab goals with the global agenda.

With assistance from regional and global partners such as the Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa (SDI), the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI), the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung MENA (FES), the Middle East Council on Global Affairs (ME Council), and Inclusive Peace, the WPS Working Group is headed by UN Women and the Issam Fares Institute.

The Working Group receives support from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

This conversation helped to represent the various viewpoints and concerns of the Arab world in the international conversation on women, peace, and security and was another crucial step in enhancing regional ownership of the WPS agenda.
