
Prior to negotiations between Ukrainian and US officials later this week to discuss ending the war in his nation, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he would visit Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
I’m going to Saudi Arabia on Monday of next week to meet with the Crown Prince,” Mr. Zelenskyy posted on the Telegram messaging app on Thursday. After that, my team will stay in Saudi Arabia to continue working with our American partners. Peace is what Ukraine wants most.
Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of US President Donald Trump, stated that he was meeting with Ukrainian authorities in Saudi Arabia next week and that he was in talks with Ukraine over a framework for a peace deal to end the three-year conflict with Russia.
Top US and Russian officials met in the kingdom last month to try to end the conflict in Ukraine and mend fences between the two nations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin’s foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Mr. Witkoff in the Saudi capital. These discussions did not include Ukraine.
