The Sharjah-based House of Wisdom (HoW) is getting ready to start a new season of its Book Club with the topic “Home.” Through curated conversations and creative writing workshops, the program, which runs from November to January 2026, takes readers on a literary journey that examines the relationship between people and their place of origin.
Three books in this season—”The Odyssey” by Homer, “House of Stone” by war correspondent Anthony Shadid, and “Near to the Wild Heart” by Brazilian author Clarice Lispector—all explore what home means across space and time. Every work tackles the idea of “home” as something influenced by identity and memory, and frequently characterized by loss, return, or absence.
The variety of themes explored through the Book Club reflects the breadth of knowledge writers have contributed over time, as well as the diversity of readers’ interests,” stated Executive Director Marwa Al Aqroubi in her remarks about the new season. In keeping with our vision of reading as a platform for ongoing intercultural and intergenerational discourse, we want to provide a fresh perspective on a human issue that has influenced authors from the past and present in each season.
