A car that had fallen off the pier in the Jaddaf neighbourhood of Bur Dubai was retrieved by divers from the Dubai Ports Police Station’s Marine Rescue Division. The car had rolled over and settled in the seabed after it crossed the pier and struck a parked yacht.
The car’s windscreen broke after it collided with the yacht directly, but two young men inside managed to escape and get out once it settled on the seabed, according to Colonel Ali Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of Ports Police Station.
He clarified that at 2:20 PM on Sunday, the General Department of Operations’ Command and Control Centre received a report indicating an automobile collided.
He said that when marine rescue and security patrols arrived at the scene, they discovered the two young men had already exited the vehicle. The patrols then made sure the two men were safe and confirmed that no other individuals were inside the vehicle.
The Marine Rescue Division’s Head, Captain Abdul Rahman Bourguiba, affirmed that the division’s divers dove straight to the ocean floor to examine the state of the car after ensuring the two young men were safe. Then, he continued, they used the ropes of a General Department of Transport and Rescue crane to lift the car to the pier.
