Glamor at the Oscars got off to a great start on Sunday as fans awaited the entrance of Hollywood’s greatest stars with both subdued and overt displays of glitz. In a sophisticated, light-beige, ethereal ensemble right from the Christian Dior spring 2025 runway, Julianne Hough got things started.

Joan Chen also looked like a fairy wearing an off-the-shoulder green chartreuse dress from the 2025 Elie Saab resort collection. At the Oscars, the color red—big, bright red—remained a popular trend. Emily Kassie and Storm Reid in a long cloak and shortie were two early walkers sporting the color. Others, like Coco Jones in the sultry Coach, a unique blend of vintage and new, and Marlee Matlin in Yara Shoemaker Couture, stayed true to black.

Stars have been stepping up their fashion game in anticipation of the season’s most significant awards ceremony as the city enters repair mode. Notable were those who played it safe but glam. Grande has been primarily keeping to a much milder shade, which is her signature and a nod to her “Wicked” good witch, Glinda, much like Margot Robbie’s Barbie pink.

Erivo, a castmate and best friend on the carpet, has never avoided a fashion risk. For last week’s Screen Actors Guild awards, she chose a silver Givenchy outfit with a high shaggy collar that was appropriate for her part as a terrible witch, forgoing her Elphaba black. As he manages his Bob Dylan attention from “A Complete Unknown,” Chalamet has been everywhere on the carpet.
