Indian airline IndiGo announced on Sunday that it had placed an order for 30 additional Airbus A350-900s, increasing the number of the widebody aircraft on its shopping list to 60 from the European manufacturer.

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, a business established in 2006 and now responsible for the largest contract by volume in civil aviation history 500 Airbus single-aisle aircraft by 2023 stated, “We are placing a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900s.”

The largest low-cost airline in India in terms of market share is establishing itself as a major force in the long-haul sector. In a statement, the business stated, “This strategic move will enable IndiGo to spread its wings further and expand its long-haul international network. With the A350 planes, which have a range of up to 15,000 kilometres (9,300 miles), it will be able to expand its network further.

IndiGo has ordered almost 1,000 aircraft from the A320 family, Airbus’s best-selling model and a competitor of the Boeing 737 MAX, which has seen several setbacks following a string of safety scares.

The International aviation Transport Association (IATA) claimed that “the development of India’s air connectivity in recent years has been nothing short of phenomenal” as it kicked off its annual industry conference in New Delhi on Sunday.
