As part of critical updates for drone enthusiasts, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) stated on Tuesday that any drone registration certificates granted in the UAE before to January 6 will be void.
Drone owners must now fill out a new application through the UAE Drones app. Check here to find out how to register.
On January 7, the Ministry of Interior announced a partial lifting of the restriction on individual drone use, which delighted the country’s photography enthusiasts. The restriction, which was enacted in 2022, has been gradually lifted since November 2023.
The relaxed restrictions, however, do not apply to Dubai, according to the emirate’s authorities. The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has underlined that recreational drone use in the city will be suspended “until further notice”.
On Tuesday, the aviation authority also stated that drones should be fitted with a remote identification system, and that the app must be used while in operation.
Those who want to operate a drone must also receive a training certificate from a GCAA-accredited centre. They need also request a product status declaration from the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, as well as follow all of the UAE Drones app’s terms and conditions.
