The Muslim Council Praises the Determination of the Disabled

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, led the Muslim Council of Elders in highlighting the importance of individuals with a strong sense of resolve in the community’s structure. Islamic principles firmly support the human dignity of all people without discrimination and call for a supportive social, economic, and cultural environment that fosters equity and justice, the Council said in a statement on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is observed annually on December 3.

The Council called on organizations and individuals to create the resources and circumstances needed for driven individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. These people have distinguished themselves as outstanding examples of tenacity and resolve throughout history by exhibiting remarkable capacities for accomplishment and effort and making important contributions.

The statement went on to say that protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, especially those with special needs, is a mandated religious and humanitarian commitment, as stated in the Document on Human Fraternity, which was signed in February 2019 in Abu Dhabi by Pope Francis and Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb.

The statement states that in order to ensure that these groups receive the proper support, strong laws and efficient enforcement systems are needed to protect their dignity and provide them the chance to participate actively in efforts to improve society.
