Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of the United Arab Emirates, met Monday with Asaad Al Shibani, the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government. During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah welcomed Shibani and his delegation.

The two top diplomats discussed ways to deepen the close, fraternal connections between the two countries and their people in areas of common interest. They reviewed the overall situation in the region and the general developments in Syria, as well as several issues of mutual concern.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the United Arab Emirates’ steadfast backing for Syria’s independence and territorial integrity. He also reiterated the UAE’s backing for all regional and international endeavours that seek to fulfil the aspirations of the Syrian people for stability, security, peace, and dignified existence.

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Syria, Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi; Mohammed Bin Mubarak Fadel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defense Affairs; Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs; and Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, were among those present at the meeting.
