His Majesty Sharjah’s ruler and Supreme Council member, Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, was present at the Cultural Palace in Sharjah to witness the start of the 34th Sharjah Theatre Days event, which the Department of Culture sponsored.

This season, which ends on February 26, features six theatrical productions vying for prizes. In addition to the substantial involvement of theatrical professionals and scholars from Arab nations, the festival includes fifteen performances by diverse theatre groups and troupes throughout the nation. In addition to the performances, the program offers training courses and thought-provoking seminars.

This edition’s “Local Personality Award” went to Emirati artist Maryam Sultan. In contrast, the 18th edition’s “Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity” went to Syrian artist Asaad Fadda, presented by the Ruler of Sharjah.

The Opera Theatre Company from Tunisia, who took home the “Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Award for Best Arab Theatrical Work 2024” for their rendition of Al-Bukhara, was also acknowledged by Sheikh Sultan. Artist Sadiq Trabelsi, the show’s director, accepted the award.

Sheikh Sultan and the guests viewed two video displays during the event. In the first, the artist Maryam Sultan’s biography was presented, emphasising her noteworthy contributions to UAE local theatre. It documented her groundbreaking work in the sector and followed her career to the late seventies.
