RTA

Dubai motorists navigating the bustling areas of Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street can now experience improved traffic conditions, thanks to a recent initiative by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The RTA has successfully concluded an enhancement project, unveiling a new junction at the intersection of Al Majasimi and Al Wasl Road, strategically positioned between Umm Suqeim Street and Al Thanya Street.

Smoother Movements with Innovative Design

This development includes the installation of signals to facilitate smoother vehicle movements, along with the addition of a new traffic stream at the intersection. Notably, the new design allows for left turns from Al Majasimi Street onto Al Wasl Road, eliminating the necessity for a right turn onto Umm Suqeim Street followed by a U-turn on Al Wasl Road.

Reducing Congestion and Slashing Travel Time

The anticipated result is a reduction in traffic congestion at the intersection of Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, crucial areas housing numerous shops and schools. Furthermore, this project has significantly reduced travel time from Umm Suqeim 3 northward to Al Wasl Road, shrinking the journey duration from three minutes to a mere 30 seconds.

Capacity Boost with Street Expansion

To enhance overall traffic flow, Al Majasimi Street underwent expansion from one lane to two lanes in each direction. This doubling of capacity per lane, from 1,200 to 2,400 vehicles per hour, is expected to contribute to more efficient traffic management in the area.

The successful completion of these initiatives aligns with RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan 2024, reflecting the authority’s commitment to enhancing the overall transportation experience for Dubai residents.
