The family of Yemeni national Talal Mahdi rejected any idea of a pardon for an Indian nurse found guilty of his murder and demanded authorities to enforce their right to retribution.

For the 2017 murder and dismemberment of Mr. Mahdi, Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala in southern India, was scheduled to be executed on July 16 in Sanaa. After Yemeni prosecutors granted her family’s last-minute appeal, her death was delayed.

Relatives of Mr. Mahdi have rejected attempts at mediation by the nurse’s family and friends, questioning the respite and demanding a new date for execution.

The Mahdi family lawyer, Waddah Qutaish, told The National, “The false rumors have made the victim’s family all the more determined for the death sentence to be carried out and to close off any avenue of communication with them regarding a pardon.

As the victim’s lawful heirs, we reiterate our unwavering dedication to upholding our rightful claim to the application of the qisas verdict. In a Facebook post, he stated, “We firmly oppose any efforts at mediation or reconciliation. The murder has been called a “crime beyond all bounds of humanity” by the family.
