WWE and Florida police announced Thursday that Hulk Hogan, the legendary figure in professional wrestling who wore a headscarf and had a moustache, had passed away at the age of 71. Authorities responded to a report of a cardiac arrest in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday morning. According to a Facebook statement from the police, Hogan was declared dead at a hospital.

Hogan, whose actual name was Terry Bollea, was possibly the biggest figure in WWE’s storied history. He was the main attraction at the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985. He continued to be a regular for years, competing against everyone from Randy Savage and Andre the Giant to The Rock and even Vince McMahon, the head of the organization. In 2005, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame after winning at least six WWE titles.

In his 2016 sex tape case against Gawker Media, a Florida jury gave Hogan $115 million plus an additional $25 million in punitive penalties. After Gawker shared a video of him having sex with the wife of his former best buddy in 2012, Hogan filed a lawsuit. He claimed his privacy was invaded by the post. During the trial, which lasted three weeks, Hogan wore black and smiled. Regarding the fan support, he remarked, “Everywhere I go, people treat me like I’m still the champ.”

WWE expressed its sorrow on Hogan’s passing in a message posted on X. In the 1980s, Hogan, one of the most well-known personalities in pop culture, played a significant role in WWE’s rise to international prominence. WWE expressed their sympathies to Hogan’s loved ones, friends, and supporters.
