According to Bloomberg, health officials in Singapore and Hong Kong have issued warnings about an increase in COVID-19 infections as a fresh wave of the virus sweeps around Asia. According to Albert Au, the head of the Communicable Disease Branch at Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection, COVID-19 activity in the city is now “quite high.”

This year saw the highest number of respiratory samples that tested positive for COVID-19. With 31 severe cases reported in the week ending May 3, the number of severe cases and fatalities peaked.

Although the current surge is not as significant as the most significant outbreaks in the past two years, further evidence indicates that the virus is spreading. More individuals are visiting hospitals and clinics with symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, which stopped the globe five years ago when it was found in sewage water.

Another densely populated Asian city, Singapore, is also seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases. The country’s health ministry released its first case update in almost a year in May. Compared to the week before, COVID-19 cases rose by 28% to around 14,200 for the week ending May 3. Hospitalisation cases brought on by COVID-19 rose by almost 30%.

Only when there is a noticeable increase do Singaporeans disclose case numbers. According to the health ministry, there is no proof that new virus strains are more contagious and cause more severe illnesses. Still, the increase could reflect the population’s waning immunity.
