A dozen men from Gaza reside in a former changing room beneath the bleachers of a stadium in the West Bank, unable to return home due to the conflict that broke out more than two and a half years ago. After that, he travelled to Nablus, which is located in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.
From the small area he had set up beneath the seats of Nablus City Stadium, he stated, “I only entered (Israel) four days before the war.”I was honored and appreciated. Then the battle broke out,” he continued, alluding to the devastation that occurred in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
After losing two sons to Israeli airstrikes, Abu Salah now earns a living by gathering and reselling recyclables. Now look at me I live in a tent. We’ve been treated like dogs here, whereas we used to live with dignity,” he remarked.
Making the most of his circumstances, Abu Salah, who is “obsessed with cleanliness,” created a dresser from cardboard boxes and adorned his walls with Palestinian flags and a picture of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, which he discovered during street sweeps.
