As a result of Israel and Hizbollah announcing widespread strikes in an intensification of cross-border hostilities, the airport in Beirut remained operational on Sunday, but many passengers were left stranded as flights were cancelled or delayed, according to a report.
“We arrived at 4:30 am for our 8:00 am flight, but they informed us it was cancelled,” stated Elham Shukair, a traveler travelling from Jordan to the United States.
The UAE’s Etihad Airways also cancelled its services to and from the Lebanese capital, and Royal Jordanian Airlines announced the suspension of its flights to Beirut “due to the current situation.
FlyDubai, an airline based in Dubai, said it did the same. The airline stressed that its passengers’ safety came first and was closely monitoring the situation.
She was sitting on her bag in the arrivals hall when she announced that she had scheduled a second flight with Middle East Airlines for later on Sunday. She wanted to get to Amman and her next connection.
Since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, which started the Gaza war, the Hizbollah movement in Lebanon has engaged in almost daily firefights with Israeli forces in support of their ally.
