Dubai’s public transport and shared mobility services carried 747.1 million passengers in 2024, up 6.4% from 702 million in 2023, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai.

Involved were public buses, Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, shared mobility (such as ride-hailing via smart apps, hourly rentals, and bun-on-demand), taxis (Dubai Taxi and franchise firms), and marine transportation (ferries, and water taxis).

Ridership increased from 1.92 million in 2023 to over 2 million on average every day. 19 million people also used luxury transportation services or limousines.

153 million journeys were made in 2024 using taxis, shared mobility, and public transportation combined. Approximately 32 million journeys were made using shared mobility services, but over 115 million trips were made in taxis.

The largest travel volumes were reported in October and November, with 14.1 million trips each. The most significant ridership was recorded in November 2024, with almost 69.9 million, followed by October (68.4 million) and December (almost 68 million). The subsequent months saw between 54 million and 65 million riders.

The steady yearly increase in public transport ridership and the 28% rise in shared mobility users over 2023 have pleased Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.
