When Cyclone Dana struck the Odisha coast at midnight on Thursday, it had a major effect on Jharkhand. Several parts of the state experienced heavy rain, particularly the Kolhan division, which has been experiencing steady rain since Thursday night.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of Odisha declared on Friday that the state had successfully dealt with the effects of the powerful cyclonic storm, achieving “Zero Casualty.”
An hour before the planned 15-hour closure period ended, flight operations at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport began on Friday morning. Likewise, Eastern Railways’ Sealdah division train services, which had been halted since 8 p.m. on Thursday, started up again little after 10 a.m. on Friday.
With 86 mm of rain on Thursday, Maheshpur in Pakur received the most, followed by Rajmahal with 42.2 mm. Ranchi and the surrounding districts are under a yellow alert, while Kolhan is under an orange alert, according to the Meteorological Department.
All schools in the Saraikela-Kharsawan districts of the Kolhan division, as well as those in East and West Singhbhum, would be closed on Friday due to the storm and rain.
